April 22nd Membership Meeting
Recap:
More than 84 professionals from 50+ firms converged
upon
CI Shenanigans to hear Russell Investments' CEO
Mike Phillips tell us what the future holds for the
bond market and Russell Investments.
Since opening their doors in Tacoma in 1936, this
has been home, according to Phillips. However, the
firm will
move its
headquarters when its current leases expire in
2013. Current Square footage in various buildings
totals 300,000, with estimates nearer 500,000 being
needed in the new location.
"We have to make some decisions as to what we will
do in 2013," Phillips said. "One of the obvious
options is to stay in Tacoma. No final decision has
been made. The criteria will be people. The asset of
the Russell Company is people."

Restoration Serves BOMA Members with
Emergency Services Program
Tacoma, WA - A devastating tornado ripped through
downtown Atlanta recently while damaging numerous
properties and leaving many BOMA/Atlanta members in
a state of emergency. From devastating wind and rain
storms and hurricanes in the southeast to floods in
the Midwest to wildfires in southern California,
Paul Davis offices throughout the country help many
BOMA members who experience similar catastrophes
with guaranteed emergency response programs during
fire, water, wind, smoke, mold, vandalism and other
crises.
According to BOMA SPS member Elissa
Sime, who serves as the Marketing and Client
Services Director at Paul Davis Restoration and
Remodeling of Greater Tacoma and South King County,
with just one phone call, her office can offer BOMA
members and all customers with a single source
solution for emergency situations whenever and
wherever they occur in the area. "Paul Davis
Restoration will ensure service to its customers
24/7, 365 days a week for reporting emergency
claims.

Education
How do you compare the performance of
your building's operating expenses against other similar buildings in our area,
or even around the world? BOMA International's Experience Exchange Report (EER)
has been compiling operating expenses data for almost 90 years, becoming the
office building industry's most respected performance benchmarking resource.
The South Puget Sound region warranted its own section in the 2007 EER when
enough BOMA SPS members completed reports. Unfortunately, we missed the cut by
1 for the 2008 EER, and our area's data will be included in the South King
County section. For the first time this year, all data was collected through
BOMA's web-based link, making it much easier and faster to complete the report
than in the past. Stay tuned for next year, when we'll be nudging even more
BOMA SPS members to participate in the 2009 EER!
Meanwhile, BOMA International
continues to offer a wide range of educational
opportunities, including an ongoing series of "BEEP
WEBINARS" - web-based seminars featuring great ideas
for reducing energy use and costs. For more
details, head to
http://www.buildings.com/webinars/boma/default.aspxx.
Finally, one of the best "learning"
environments is packaged into the annual BOMA
International Conference and The Office Buildings
Show. This year's educational opportunities are
organized in five tracks - Building a High
Performance Team; Enhancing Asset Value; Exploring
New Business Opportunities; Achieving
Sustainability; and Optimizing Technology -
something for everyone. The trade show is large and
comprehensive, and the behind-the-scenes Building
Tours are one of my favorite options while attending
the conference. Be sure to register soon - this
year's event is June 22-24, 2008 in Denver,
Colorado, preceded June 18-20 by the Medical Office
Buildings and Healthcare Facilities conference.
Visit
http://www.boma.org for registration and other
information.
Upcoming Meetings
May 27th
"Roundtable"
Everyone attending has the
opportunity to give a two-minute "elevator
speech" to the other members at their table,
explaining what their company does and/or has to
offer, how it might benefit other BOMA members and
how members can share that info with outside
contacts.

register.
